The doors are creaking...

My ghouls and fiends, we are fast approaching the opening of the Crypt doors. That's right, the Night of the Open Grave will be upon us this February 3rd, 2026.
First, thank you to everyone who supported WYRD Dungeon. Your trust in me to release that game spurred me on and gave me the courage to continue working on The Crypt Has Opened. Your support send shivers down our spines.
TCHO has been in development now for 6 years, and is near and dear to my cold heart. After hundreds of hours of play testing and being a part of so many wonderful stories of terror and magic, I can't wait to see it in your hands.
I'd like to take this moment to thank my ghastly co-conspirators, Andrew Beauman (Layout) and Chaotic Jamgochian (Editor). These two have helped me keep what sanity I have left leading up to this launch. Without them it would be another six years before the game could crawl its way out of the grave.
There will be more exciting announcements over on the official Crypt prelaunch page, so be sure to follow us there as we draw closer to the big event. And also share the campaign on your socials and let's get everyone prepared for the horrors that are about to clamber from the tombs.
I'll see you in the Myst.
What's in a name?

Turns out, a lot! Back when I decided to start my own game company I wanted a name that not only reflects the kind of games I make but also that pays honor to my family. The iconic pumpkin head with moose antlers were for my children, whose nicknames are Pumpkin and Moose. The name Jak, was for my partner. It all worked so well.
Unfortunately I didn't know at the time that there was a prominent TTRPG news outlet named Happy Jack's RPG Network.
We would often get confused for one another. They even reached out to me at one point about it. It finally came to the point that I knew it would become a problem. Since they were here first, it came down to me to change my name.
I took some time, did some branding research and dug into the kind of company I wanted to represent. I wanted to share a sense of inclusivity, warmth, narrative storytelling, with a hint of spookiness. For me, that's a sleep away camp. Where we sit around the fire and tell spooky stories. Thus...
When Suddenly! Games. If you know the story telling game you'll get the name.
This isn't actually a new thing, I've been working under this name for a bit now but just recently contacted Kickstarter to have my account name switched over. Thankfully they were very understanding and helped me without any issues!
So what's next? We're currently wrapping up rules development for our big game "The Crypt Has Opened" which is in beta testing. If you'd like to check it out, you're free to download the rules from our website www.whensuddenly.games. Keep an eye out for future announcements on when we go to crowdfunding for that.
Thanks again for your support for WYRD Dungeon. If you've have any stories of bringing it to the table of using any part of it I'd love to hear it!
Until our next announcement, take care and we'll see you by the campfire.
Anniversary!

Hey everyone!
I can’t believe it’s already been a year since the Kickstarter for WYRD Dungeon. A lot has happened since then and now that I’d like to talk about.
The biggest change is that we’re no longer called Happy Jak Games. That’s right! You see, there is another preestablished organization that goes by a very similar name and we both had been getting people confused. So since the names were just similar enough and we both are in the same industry but they were here first, it felt best that I make the change.
So, who are we now?
It took some time, some research, and discovering who we are and the kinds of games we love to find the perfect name for us. If you’ve ever been camping, you may have played a little improv story telling game around the camp fire. Where each person ends their contribution with “When Suddenly…!” and passes the story to the next person.
This is the feeling behind who we are. Collaborative story telling in a warm, safe, but often times spooky environment.
So what’s next then? Well, the biggest change is that this Kickstarter page will, effectively, become inert. After launching a project KS prevents you from changing your display name. But since that doesn’t work for us our only option is to create a new account under the updated brand.
Of course we don’t want to lose contact with everyone who backed and has enjoyed WYRD Dungeon! We’ve got more games in the works and want to be able to share when those things drop.
To help facilitate that transfer expect first, an email from When Suddenly Games asking if you’d like to be added to our external email list. Please feel free to opt out! After that email we’ll make sure you’d a part of our future announcements and updates.
Thank you again to everyone who backed WYRD Dungeon and believed in our little “wyrd” idea. You’re all fantastic and I can’t wait to show you what’s next…
We’ll see you by the campfire.

And that's that! All the packages are out, everyone should have a tracking confirmation, and they're on their way. If you have any issues with receiving your order or something isn't right, please message us and we'll get back to you ASAP.
Beyond that, we hope you have an amazing time playing WYRD Dungeon. We'd like to see people with their books so if you use social media post a pic with the hashtag #wyrddungeon so we can see them! If you come up with some wild combinations of factions and level names we'd love to hear about those, too.
I can't believe it's already over. Than you again to everyone who backed the project. I hope it brings you hours of enjoyment.
